RARE MONUMENTAL 42" BLENKO Myers #7052 Optic Glass Floor Architectural Decanter--Mint
This impossibly spectacular Blenko masterpiece was designed by modernist art glass icon Joel Philip Myers just before left Blenko in 1970, and it shows the artist at the top of his game. Certainly all of Blenko's mid-century architectural pieces are highly coveted as they were never produced in near the same quantity as those with smaller scale, and their size and heft make them more vulnerable to destruction as the years go on. Blenko design #7052 was produced for two years only (1970 and 1971), but if Worthpoint's historical record of auction sales is a reasonable indicator of availability and rarity, this beauty is practically a unicorn--only TWO were sold with their stoppers intact over the last decade! (At least those that were properly identified.)
But our speciman has far more than ridiculous rarity to recommend it: aside from being done in a particularly deep and uniform tangerine/amberina orange--it's in extraordinary condition. There may be some dust from storage in the bottle's interior, but I'm certain this piece has never held liquid--it is free of any mineral deposits and is as close to PRISTINE as an old piece such as this could be. Certainly, the base shows some wear, and a close examination of the glass might yield sightings of a minor scratch or scuff. Nevertheless, I could find nothing notable enough to warrent a mention.
