These large exceptional Formia Di Vetri glass birds, done in a weep-worthy deep cranberry sommerso strewn with heaps of gold aventurine, probably date back to the early 1990s given a nearly identical bird featured on the Formia Murano Zoo pages. Formia, formed in 1962 (and bankrupted in 2016 but reorganized under a new name), has produced amongst the most extensive variety of Murano glass birds and water fowl of any Murano furnace, past and present. It's 1984 HAMILTON COLLECTION EXOTIC BIRDS OF THE WORLD series by Maestro Francesco is perhaps its most famous and highly coveted body of work.
Bird #1 stands slightly taller than 15", bird #2 slightly shorter. Bird #2, alas, lost it's central 'headfeather' in flight. Both pieces are otherwise flawless.
