MASSIVE BLENKO Joel MYERS #6716 Glass Decanter w Air Twist Stopper in Turquoise Blue

Sorry, this item has sold.

When it comes to glass, if it is indeed size that matters (still inconclusive), then look no further. This BIG breathtaking mid-century glass decanter with airtwist stopper designed by Joel Myers for the 1967 Blenko catalog (#6716) will knock your socks off. Just over 15" tall, it's also around a full foot in diameter, and it's topped off by a large and simply-to-die for airtwist ball stopper. The color and clarity of the Turquoise glass is startling. Although Blenko, at this point, hadn't made Ice Blue since 1953, that's what this light bright turquoise is remnicent of.

While Blenko produced this popular design for 5 years (1971 was the last year of production), this decanter is nevertheless quite uncommon. Only about 20 (properly identified by catalog number) have been sold on online auctions in the last decade according to Worthpoint. I'm guessing that today's supply of these beauties is so tight for a combination of reasons: 1) This is one massive decanter and pretty non-functional unless you can bench press 200 lbs; these pieces were most certainly produced in smaller numbers than more petite functional decanters. 2) This is one massive decanter and a disproportionate number have likely been destroyed in transit. ( I've bought these beauties as often as I could over the years, and with no exaggeration, nearly half arrived in shards.)

There are some light mineral deposits on the base and looking through bright direct light ONLY, there are a few areas of staining from condensation. But again, all of these are so light that they're irrelevant to the bottle on display.

DIMENSIONS: ~15" tall x ~12" in widest diameter
CONDITION: Excellent, with expected base wear, possibly a scuff or two on the exterior (couldn't see any but that's a lot of real estate to cover), and some light mineral deposits at base (see photos)

Frequently Asked Questions

Custom and personalized orders

GLASSpheme loves custom orders! But how do we 'customize' vintage glass? Simple. We love glass and we love our customers--and there are many ways we can help!

1) Volume discounts: Let's say there are several pieces you MUST have. Let me know, and I'll send you our very best price for the lot.

2) Custom displays: Say you have a special place in your home that SCREAMS for a glass display. Send me a photo of the space, your budget, and the accent colors for your room, and we'll send you photographs of possible groupings and our special pricing for the lot.

3) Tell us what groupings you have in mind, and we'll photograph them together for you so you can see how they'll look together.

Gift wrapping and packaging

What could be better than giving a gorgeous piece of vintage glass as a gift? (Aside from getting one, that is.) Glass is beautiful and functional--mostly! Consider a super mod biomorphic bowl or cased glass jar for a vanity or dresser, a platter/centerpiece for fruit on a countertop, or a vase for cut flowers. Not only does vintage glass bring exquisite delight to the most mundane of household functions (you should see our soap dishes), but our beauties increase in value over time. Send us a note telling us your purchase is a gift, and we will send it along with your personalized gift card, colorful tissue paper and a bow. (You alone will receive the receipt by email.)

Can I Select Custom Arrival Dates?

GLASSpheme ships your purchase on the very next business day, but we're flexible too! If you're going away on vacation or have a special date you'd like your gift to arrive, send us a note, and we'll time our shipping for you!

How can I get coupons for your shop and be informed of sales?

Simple! Join the GLASSpheme mailing list! Paste this link in your browser, send us your email address, and VOILA--you'll be among the first to know when your favorite piece of glass is on sale, or when we're offering coupons.
